I’m soooo excited to share this elopement from this past winter that took place on the south coast of Iceland. With adventures at Skogafoss waterfall, Dryholaeh black sand beach and around Vik, this elopement is everything you could dream a winter Icelandic elopement to be!

But first, lets back track to how we got here! On Valentines day night, a Thursday, I got an email from Lindsie and Blane asking if I was free to shoot an elopement on Monday. I was excited cause you knowwww I love me some Iceland, but also knew it was such a long shot. However, I was completely open to the idea because I had nothing planned over the next few days, and just the week prior had almost spontaneously booked a ticket to Iceland for that weekend to try to scout some northern lights!

I responded to their inquiry and the next morning, I had a response “let’s do this!” I sent her the contract + deposit, and within 20 minutes they had everything signed and paid. Well dang! I guess this is happening! I hopped on Expedia, booked a flight, car and guest house, packed my camera house and headed to the airport the next day!

We had some quick emails back and forth about where they wanted to elope - luckily, I’d been to this area of Iceland twice, so I was slightly familiar with it. I threw some names out of places for them to check out, and we had a plan! I met up with them mid afternoon and we took off on our adventure.

I’ve spent about 3 weeks total in Iceland and I can’t recall ever having a sunny day, and I’ve only seen one sunset there. It’s typically full of weather, which makes it so epic! I was expecting lots of snow, ice, wind, weather and freezing temps. WELL, these guys lucked out. *Also Iceland isn’t nearly as arctic as I thought it would be in winter* But, the day was gorgeous. Light winds, manageable temps, and then one of the most gorgeous sunsets I’ve seen!

I met them at their hotel, helped Lindsie zip up her dress, and walked her downstairs for her first look with Blane. Next we headed to Skogafoss waterfall, one of my favorites, and veryyyy well known, but they were the stars of the show when they showed up in their wedding gear! We moved about to a few different spots in the region, ending up at Dryholaeh to take in sunset, Iceland’s wedding gift to them.

What a blast of a day. I love spontaneity and this elopement was all encompassing of that!

Inspired to have a winter elopement in Iceland?
