Acadia Sunset Adventure Photography | Jordan Pond Couples Portraits

One of the best ways to make the most of Acadia’s incredible scenery is with an Acadia Sunset Adventure Photography session. And of course, it wouldn’t be an Acadia photo shoot without some Jordan Pond Couples Portraits

Like so many couples in 2020, Christina & Mark’s wedding plans didn’t quite go as planned. Despite all the uncertainty though, this wonderful pair decided to make the most of it by booking in an Acadia Sunset Adventure Photography session with me two weeks before their wedding. They brought their gorgeous dog, Nala, along for the first part of the session, which made the evening all the more special. We made the most of our time, moving from a rocky ocean outcrop to Jordan Pond and finally, up to Cadillac Mountain for the most beautiful sunset. Acadia National Park is of course full of gorgeous photo spots, but I really think we made the most of it for Christina & Mark’s adventure portrait session!

There is no doubt that Acadia National Park is a special place. Protecting a wonderful patch of Maine’s wild Atlantic cost, Acadia boasts ocean views as well as stunning mountaintop vistas. As Christina & Mark discovered during their session, it can also let you experience different seasons in one day! So, if you’re up for an adventure, and you’d love a mix of the wild ocean, calm ponds and dizzying heights, Acadia could be the place for you.

For adventure portrait sessions like Christina & Mark’s, you won’t need a special use permit – just a regular entrance pass will do. Entrance fees vary depending on how you arrive and the time of year, but it’s likely your best option will be the private vehicle entrance, which costs $30. Regardless, I’d recommend you buy the pass online and print it beforehand. That way, we can meet up as soon as you arrive and start having fun (and taking beautiful portraits)!

Acadia Portrait Photos Itinerary

Acadia has more than 120 miles worth of trails, so the options are endless! For Christina & Mark’s session, we decided to make the most of a few spots that show off everything Acadia has to offer. We started their session at a rocky area near the Atlantic. This was perfect for Nala who could run around more freely – and it was so important to Christina & Mark to include her! Then we headed over to Jordan Pond, which has that gorgeous, classic Acadia scenery, before checking out Cadillac Mountain.

Of course, you never know what Cadillac Mountain is going to give you. It’s the tallest point in the National Park, and it’s also the first place where the sun rises over the continental US (at least, for half the year!). Most importantly though, that change in elevation is enough to mean the weather could be totally different! Down by Jordan Pond and the ocean, the sky was a beautiful blue and the air was totally still. Up the top… it was crazy!! The wind was probably 50-60 miles per hour and all of a sudden fog started rolling in. Christina & Mark were totally ready for an adventure, but all the same, we decided to find a slightly calmer spot for sunset and headed south down the mountain. You can see from Christina’s hair that the wind didn’t slow down all that much, but we were rewarded with the most beautiful sunset, and the perfect end to their Acadia Sunset Adventure Photography session.

Jordan Pond Couples Portraits

Maine is famous for its stunning fall foliage, and Acadia National Park is no different. It’s especially beautiful if you have a chance to explore Jordan Pond, which is surrounded by beautiful woodlands. Not just that, Jordan Pond is also known for the Bubble Rocks, a large granite rock that seems to be perched impossibly on the side of a cliff. If you’re unsure about the changing weather atop Cadillac Mountain, you could opt for some Jordan Pond Couples Portraits instead! The Bubble Rock Trailhead isn’t too hard, and it offers spectacular views across the lake.
