Bailey & Nathan’s super fun Maui Elopement Photography along the Road to Hāna has everything from red sand beaches to spontaneous tattoos. And this is only part one!

It’s not every day that a couple changes their elopement plans to meet me somewhere else, but that’s exactly what Bailey & Nathan did! This super sweet pair initially contacted me about eloping to the Grand Canyon on 4.3.21. When I let them know I already had plans to be in Hawaii though, they replied that Hawaii sounded way better and they were in! Maui is a long way to come from their home state of Texas, but Bailey & Nathan were keen to have an epic adventure. They trusted me completely throughout the process and it meant we were able to create something truly incredible. Really, I am so excited to share Part 1 of their Maui Elopement Photography with you today.

You don’t need to have traveled to Hawaii to know that it is beautiful, but being amongst the luscious tropical forest, colorful sand beaches and epic waterfalls is truly something else. Bailey & Nathan wanted to explore as many different landscapes as possible, so we started their full-day elopement in Hāna, at sunrise. The first location was a red sand beach, which they had all to themselves. The combination of the red sand against the blue water was unreal. After an easy hike down to the beach, Bailey changed into her wedding dress so they could have a first look. Bailey & Nathan then read their vows. Safe to say, the emotions of the day combined with the impossible beauty of Hāna made this a super special, intimate moment.

We then went over to another beach, which had a completely different vibe. We went from red sand to white sand, with beautiful green mountains behind us and the blue ocean ahead of us. The way the scenery changes from one dramatic landscape to another is really what makes Maui – and Hawaii, in general! – so special. Bailey & Nathan had fun splashing in the waves, wedding attire and all, and taking in the view before we headed back up the Road to Hāna.

 The Road to Hāna

The Road to Hāna is rated as one of Hawaii’s best scenic drives and let’s just say, it’s famous for a reason! Also known as the Hāna Highway, the Road to Hāna runs along the northeast coastline of Maui and is punctuated by beaches, hikes and waterfalls. Bailey & Nathan were absolute troopers, waking up at 3am to drive along the entire highway to meet me in Hāna for sunrise. Meanwhile, I’d spent the night there to scout out a few locations.

After their sunrise beach session, we headed back up the Hāna Highway to the west side of the island. We’d spent some time planning out our drive so we were able to stop along the way at a few beautiful locations, including some waterfalls. Around 10am or 11am, we’d planned to do some cliff jumping, but when we got there, there was a huge line. Both Bailey & Nathan just looked at me and said, ‘we don’t want to deal with this. Let’s get shaved ice!’, and so we headed up to Pa’ia Town

Unique Wedding Ideas: Maui Wedding Tattoos

When we arrived in Pa’ia Town, the shaved ice shop was closed but we happened to spy a tattoo parlor. Bailey & Nathan joked that they should get tattoos, but we decided to keep going to Lahaina in search of another shaved ice spot. As it turned out, that shaved ice spot was also closed but again, it was right next to a tattoo parlor! I ran in to ask the guys at Blue Hawaii Tattoo if they had any openings, and they said they could do two walk-ins if they were ready right now.

It was super spontaneous, but Bailey & Nathan were absolutely up for it. Bailey got a monstera leaf added to a floral piece on her leg, because there are monstera plants all over the island. Nathan got their wedding date and a little shaka hand on his arm. The fact that Bailey & Nathan were so happy to just make the most of the morning, whatever it brought, really spoke to who they are as people. Ending the first part of their Maui Elopement Photography with spontaneous Wedding Tattoos was super fun and true to them.

After that, we all headed back to our hotels where we got ready for part two of Bailey & Nathan’s epic Maui Elopement Photography along the Road to Hāna!!
