Ocean Path at Sunrise

When Rachel and Zach decided to elope, they knew they wanted a day filled with intention, adventure, and to be present in nature. Acadia National Park gave them all that and more—a peaceful, rocky coastline, quiet trails, and a sunrise that felt like the world was waking up just for them.

We met in the early morning light, just before dawn, at the beginning of the Park Loop Road near the start of Ocean Path. The sky was still dark, but slowly lighting up with golden color! As the sun began to rise over the Atlantic, soft golden light spilled across the waves and granite cliffs, casting everything in beautiful glow. Rachel and Zach took it all in, snuggled up, listening to the sound of the crashing waves. Name a better way to start your wedding day!

Exploring Ocean Path

Afterward, we moved along to the rest of Ocean Path, and spent the morning slowly exploring the coastline and Park Loop Road, stopping at little pull-offs to take in the view, climb around tide-worn rocks, and soak up the peace that Acadia so effortlessly offers. One of the best parts of eloping in Acadia is how many gorgeous spots are tucked just off the road, making it easy to wander and follow your curiosity.

Acadia National Park Elopement Hike

Once the morning chill gave way to warm sunshine, we stopped at Coffee Matter (a personal favorite!) in Bar Harbor for a cozy coffee break (because every good elopement needs a little caffeine and local charm!). Then, we laced up our boots and hit a short mountain trail—just enough hiking to earn sweeping views and a fresh perspective on the landscape we’d been exploring all morning. From above, Acadia’s mix of forest, granite, and sea looked even more surreal.

Vows in Acadia National Park

Zach in particular was imagining a mossy forest to exchange vows in. We ended up finding the perfect spot along the hike, so we stopped and did the thing right there! It was so quiet and special to watch these two read their vows in a way that felt perfect for them. Shortly after their vows, a couple walked by with two frenchies, the same kind of dogs Rachel and Zach have, and asked if they were getting married. Turns out it was that couples 30th wedding anniversary, and that’s why they were visiting Acadia! Feels like a good luck charm if I’ve ever heard one!

Wedding Day Lobster Rolls

To end the day, we made our way to the quieter southwest side of Mount Desert Island. Beal’s Lobster Pier (another favorite of mine!) was the perfect low-key lunch stop—lobster rolls eaten with salty fingers and ocean views. We followed up lobster rolls with a walk along Seawall, one of the most peaceful parts of the park.

Beals is a great place to stop for lunch or dinner on your elopement day. This couple brought their wedding guests to Beals, too!

Eloping on Ocean Path in Acadia National Park

Rachel and Zach’s elopement was everything a Maine coast adventure should be—relaxed, joyful, and grounded in nature. No rush, no pressure, just a day celebrating them. Ocean Path is the most classic area of Acadia National Park, and watching them get to explore it at sunrise and seemingly all to themselves, was the best!
