Two Day Fall Elopement in Zion National Park
Day two of Sarah & Jacob’s Zion National Park Fall Elopement was absolutely breathtaking and made the most of Zion’s famous vistas as well as the fall foliage. In this post, I’ll also answer one of my most frequently asked questions, When to Elope in Zion National Park.
In case you missed it, we already got a glimpse at Sarah & Jacob’s incredible nuptials last week, when I shared all about their Intimate Utah Wedding in a sweet Airbnb just outside of Zion. Sarah & Jacob both adore exploring national parks together, and so it was really important to them that they be married surrounded by nature. At the same time, they wanted to celebrate this momentous day with their families. So, for their Zion National Park Fall Elopement, they made the best of both worlds! They had an Intimate Utah Wedding one day with friends, family, and a delicious vegan feast, and a sunrise elopement portrait session the next, featuring some of Zion’s most beautiful views.

Zion National Park Fall Elopement
I have a sneaking suspicion that so many people think of Zion as a place where it’s perpetually summer. If that’s you, then do I have news for you! Zion is exceptionally beautiful all-year round, and if you haven’t considered it as a spot to relish some breathtaking Fall foliage, then you definitely should. Scattered through Zion National Park’s famous red rock canyons and cliff faces, you’ll find beautiful trees whose leaves change from green to yellow, orange and fiery red as Fall sets in. And it doesn’t just fade into Zion’s red rock – it adds depth and texture, the kind of beauty that will stop you in your tracks.
Elopement Portraits at Canyon Overlook Trail, Zion
Even if you don’t know the name of Canyon Overlook Trail, it’s likely you’ll recognize the view. It’s a favorite among photographers and tourists alike, and it’s easy to see why. The view will take your breath away (not to mention it’s a relatively easy 1-mile hike). I guarantee if you choose to have Elopement Portraits at Canyon Overlook Trail, you’ll need a few moments just to soak it all in when we get up there. As with all popular trails though, it’s so important to plan in advance.
Couples often choose to elope because they want to have an intimate and personal celebration for their wedding. Passersby, on the other hand, love to cheer on and congratulate couples in wedding clothes. which can be a lot of fun, but it might take away from the intimacy of an elopement. It’s for this reason that I always recommend you don’t plan your National Park elopement in peak season. I also recommend you plan your elopement portraits at less popular hours for tourists, like sunrise. Regardless of location, sunrise is often photographer’s favorite time of day for photos because the light is beautiful and soft. The added benefit for National Park elopement portraits is that sunrise sessions mean you’ll usually beat the crowd.
When to Elope in Zion National Park
You’ll know by now that I’m a huge fan of Zion in the fall, but When is the best time to Elope in Zion National Park? That’s easy! In Fall and Spring! National Parks can get incredibly busy, especially in the summer as tourists and travelers are more eager to explore and adventure in America’s incredible national parks.
Asides from just avoiding crowds, I’d also suggest that the best times to Elope in Zion National Park are fall and spring because of the weather. Sure, Zion is fairly temperate all year round, but it can drop to the 20s in the winter months and get up to 115°F in the summer. Fall and spring tend to offer more comfortable temperatures, so you’ll be happier to explore and make the most of this once in a lifetime experience.
