Elopement with Family in Acadia National Park

If you’ve ever wondered what it looks like to elope in Acadia National Park with family by your side, Jen and John’s two-day elopement is the perfect example of how to blend adventure, intentionality, and togetherness. Traveling from New York with their loved ones, they turned their elopement into a full weekend experience, enjoying the rugged Maine coastline and cozy family time.

Private Vows Along Ocean Path

The first day of Jen and John’s Acadia elopement was reserved just for the two of them, which is one of my favorite ways to structure a multi-day elopement! It gives you a chance to slow down, soak in the landscape and each other, before the busyness of the celebration began.

We started along Ocean Path, one of Acadia’s most iconic coastal trails. Crashing waves, sea breeze, and granite cliffs was the perfect spot for their private vow exchange and a first dance! It was quiet, peaceful, and deeply personal for just the two of them.

Sunset at Cadillac Mountain

As the sun set even further, we drove up to the classic Cadillac Mountain for sunset. They were blown away by the view on Cadillac and we spent the rest of the evening running around the granite rocks, watching the light change, and feeling all the feels!

Elopement Ceremony with Family

The next morning, the energy shifted to family. Jen and John got ready at their Bar Harbor Airbnb, a charming home filled with laughter, umbrellas, and the smell of fresh coffee. Even though the weather forecast promised rain, everyone was in good spirits—ready to celebrate no matter what.

Their ceremony took place under steady rain, but instead of letting it dampen the mood, Jen and John embraced it fully. The raindrops glistened on their umbrellas, their families stood smiling through it all, and it ended up being a beautiful and emotional ceremony.

Cozy Family Dinner at Sassafras Café

Afterward, we all dried off and headed to Sassafras Café, a cozy, intimate space just outside of Bar Harbor. The café was decorated with warm lighting and natural touches that made it feel like a relaxed dinner party at home. With about 10–15 guests, Sassafras is the perfect atmosphere for a cozy dinner and the perfect ending to an Acadia family elopement weekend.

Rainy Elopements in Acadia

If there’s one thing to take away from Jen and John’s story, it’s that Acadia’s magic isn’t dependent on perfect weather. Whether it’s fog rolling over the mountains or rain soaking the pines, the park’s beauty shines through in every condition. Jen and John fully embraced that, and it made their photos and experience even more memorable.

Planning an Acadia Elopement with Family

Eloping in Acadia National Park doesn’t mean you have to do it alone. Many couples choose to include family in part of their day, or like Jen and John, to stretch the celebration over two days.

Here are a few tips if you’re planning something similar:

  • Split your experience: Have one day for private vows and adventure, and one day for a family ceremony or celebration.

  • Stay flexible with weather: Acadia’s coastal climate can change quickly—having an open mindset and backup plans makes all the difference.

  • Choose cozy reception spaces: Spots like Sassafras Café or intimate Bar Harbor restaurants are perfect for small group dinners.

  • Book accommodations nearby: Bar Harbor offers plenty of charming Airbnbs and inns that make getting ready stress-free and scenic.
